CSR feeds through to the bottom line
Stine Bosse, Group CEO, commenting on TrygVesta’s social commitment:
As far back as I can remember, behaving decently towards employees, customers and the community in general has been inherent to TrygVesta’s everyday operations. I believe that a pro-active approach to and involvement in society are key to operating a business. In the final analysis, behaving decently yields the best financial results.
Climate and the environment are major factors in our CSR approach. Being an insurer, climate change directly affects our everyday operations. If climate change produces more windstorms, more and heavier rain or flooding, it affects us either through the amounts we have to pay out or through the price of reinsurance. I’m convinced that merely by acknowledging this challenge, we have started a movement aimed at finding sustainable solutions. That’s why we have decided to dedicate extra focus to this part of CSR.
When committing to climate issues from a business point of view, we must take the lead ourselves, and in 2008 we seriously began working with climate issues in-house. We have defined a climate strategy with specific benchmarks for our efforts in 2008. An important step will be taken in the early summer of 2008 when almost all 4,000 TrygVesta employees begin working with a theme and learning package focusing on climate issues and how we can use the climate challenge for the benefit of our customers and services. The knowledge gained will then be made available to our customers as a natural part of our peace-of-mind provision and advisory services. Very often, we will see risks curbed as an extra advantage of responsible climate behaviour. We will also look at how everybody can become better at reducing energy consumption at TrygVesta. We have committed ourselves to reducing our Nordic CO2 emissions by 10% from 2008 to 2010.
At TrygVesta, we intend to constantly be aware of climate challenges when working with assessing and pricing risk. Thus, we will also enhance peace of mind for our customers and provide better service.
