TrygVesta intends to define targets for the Group’s climate and environmental efforts each year. We will be moving towards a more sustainable development step by step. We will communicate our targets and performance openly on a regular basis.

Environmental targets for 2008

Status, October 2008

1.

 

 

 

TrygVesta intends to define a corporate environmental policy for the Nordic region, applicable from 1 January 2008. TrygVesta’s environmental policy will contain the Group's overall principles and specific targets for sustainable development.

2.

 

 

TrygVesta intends to join the UN Global Compact, international universal principles for human rights, employee rights, environmental issues and anti-corruption.

TrygVesta has officially joined UN Global Compact and is registered as a participant in the world’s largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative.

3.

 

 

 

 

TrygVesta in Denmark intends to endorse the sustainability principles of the Charter for Sustainable Business Development prepared by the Danish government’s Council for Sustainable Business Development (RBE). TrygVesta is a member of the RBE.

In the spring of 2008, TrygVesta endorsed the Danish RBE Charter for Sustainable Business Development.

TrygVesta is committed to the Norwegian government’s initiative “Klimaløftet” and intends to play a pro-active part in implementing “Klimaløftet” in 2008. “Klimaløftet” in Norway commits TrygVesta to initiating climate action plans and carbon emissions accounts, and to enhancing knowledge about climate issues within the Group.

TrygVesta has now finalised its initial Nordic carbon emissions accounts for 2007, and will use them as a basis for preparing a CO2 action plan. A theme package on climate issues for all the Group’s employees has been implemented in the spring of 2008.

In Denmark, TrygVesta will participate as a founding partner in the “Climate Life” project launched by Monday Morning (Denmark) in preparation for the UN summit in 2009. In connection with the UN 2009 climate summit in Copenhagen,  “Climate Life” is intended to build awareness of global climate challenges and opportunities and lead the way to a more climate-friendly future for humans and societies globally. TrygVesta will also be a member of the Danish Advisory Board for the overall climate activities of Monday Morning.

 In 2008, TrygVesta has taken part in an economic sponsorship to initiate the development of Mandag Morgen’s climate project “Climate Life”.

In Norway, TrygVesta will participate in the “KlimaGevinst 2020” partnership for climate solutions launched by Monday Morning (Norway). “KlimaGevinst 2020” intends to forge partnerships and specific climate projects relating to innovation and learning among leading Norwegian and international businesses in 2008.

TrygVesta is a member of several networks and working groups in Norway for the purpose of enhancing knowledge about the climate challenge.

TrygVesta intends to perform an environmental screening of the entire Group in early 2008. This will be a green status report and the basis for benchmarking the Group’s environmental efforts in the years ahead. The environmental screening will provide an overview and a basis for prioritising future years' efforts.

The first environmental screening has been performed. TrygVesta has finalised its initial carbon emissions accounts for 2007. The carbon emissions accounts will enable TrygVesta to report to and answer the questionnaire of the international “Carbon Disclosure Project” network.

TrygVesta intends to define a specific target of reducing CO2 emissions by 10% from 2008 to 2010 based on the Group’s environmental screening in early 2008.

TrygVesta has defined a target of reducing the Group’s CO2 emissions by 10%.

TrygVesta intends to draw up a corporate action plan based on the CO2 emissions reduction target.

TrygVesta has completed a theme package on climate issues for all 4,000 employees and will in the autumn 2008 develop the employees’ climate suggestions to reduce CO2-emissions further.

Based on the environmental screening of the Group, TrygVesta intends to chart and explore the possibilities of improving waste sorting, reducing paper consumption and increasing recycling. Environmental targets will be defined for waste, paper consumption and recycling.

TrygVesta has set up three environmental points of focus – use of water, use of paper and quantity of waste. TrygVesta’s overall objective is to monitor and reduce the use and quantity for these three areas.

TrygVesta intends to perform an annual documented follow up on defined targets and key ratios. This follow up will be published each year.

In the summer 2008, TrygVesta has disclosed the Group’s climate strategy and –activities as a part of the Group’s overall Corporate Social Responsibility on www.trygvesta.com

TrygVesta intends define a range of sustainability principles (environmental requirements) in relation to the Group’s suppliers. TrygVesta will review the Group’s in-house procurement (e.g. computers, canteen purchases) to look for more environment-friendly or eco-labelled alternatives.

TrygVesta has begun an internal process towards a more extensive review of the existing sustainability principles in relation to the Group’s suppliers.

TrygVesta intends to implement a corporate environmental and climate management model, determining responsibilities and authorities with respect to the environmental commitment.

The environmental management model was implemented on 1 January 2008.
